Pearl is described as the wonderful daughter. Pearl is a great daughter, but Hester is worried about what will become of her. Even though Pearl is a wonderful daughter, she is seen as having the devil inside her. When Hester tries to raise Pearl with the same religious values that she employs, however Pearl is not so keen to the subject. Pear rejects the religion and insists that she has no father in Heaven. Pearl is also entertained by the scarlet letter that Hester wears on her chest. The letter’s origin is also put into question by Pearl, but she refuses to recognize the question. Pearl is recognized as a child of the devil by the other people in town, however Hester is beginning to see her as more than that.
